Volkswagen
In 1934 Adolf Hilter asked for a small car, affordable for most of the
people ("people's car" = "Volkswagen"). Therefore in 1937
the "Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens
mbH (GeZuVor)" was founded. It was planned to produce a "KdF-Wagen" (German: Kraft durch Freude = "strength through joy"), the later VW "Käfer" (Beetle). In fact, until 1945 mostly military vehicles based on the Beetle-chassis were built.
Early after WWII the production of civilian vehicles started. |
