While the normal Beetle received the major facelift in 1970 (increased wheelbase, longer front end), the
"Sparkäfer" (="low cost Beetle") gained only minor improvements: in 1973 the 1200 got the square bumpers, too,
the bigger backlights and in 1974 the front turning lights moved from the frontfender into the front bumper.
The Beetle was built until 1978 in Germany and until 2003 in Mexico. The Beetle was imported from Mexico to Europe until 1985.
