The Schwimmwagen (=Floating/Swimming Car) was developed out of the KdF-Wagen and the VW Typ 82. 
The Typ 166 is related to the Typ 128. They were both amphibious all-wheel-drive off-road vehicles,
used by the German Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS during WWII.
