Steyr was founded in 1864 as 'Josef und Franz Werndl & Comp., Waffenfabrik und Sägemühle' and from 1869 as
'Oesterreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft (OEWG)'. From 1918 it produced cars, and in 1926 the company was renamed to
'Steyr-Werke AG'. In 1934 it merged with the 'Austro-Daimler-Puchwerke A.G' to the 'Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG'.
In 1998 the automobile manufacturing division was sold to the 'Magna Europe AG', since then it is called 'MAGNA STEYR AG & Co KG'.
The Steyr-Puch 650 was an updated version of a badge-engineered model of the Fiat 500.
