Thought as a successor of the VW-Porsche 914, but Volkswagen dropped out and Porsche developed the 924 on its own.
The 924 had a 4-cylinder engine from Volkswagen.
This and the simple body was the reason that the customer couldn't accept it as a true Porsche.
This specific car was built by Porsche to race at several Rallyes: Rallye Monte Carlo 1980, Rallye d'Antibes 1980 and Rallye Monte Carlo 1981.
The Turbo GT is the predecessor of the Carrera GT-series based on the 924.
