The Porsche 550 Spyder was the first Porsche model developed
for motor sport races. The Carrera Panamericana was built for the more than 3000km/1860mi
long rally in South America, it finished third and fourth in overall ranking, and first and second
in the 1500cm³-class. With its small body and low weight it was faster than the larger and heavier competitors.
