In 1955 Robert Uhlenhaut developed a coupe based on the W196 300SLR with the gullwing-doors
taken from the W198 300SL. It was built only two times, used by Uhlenhaut as a daily-driver.
It was planned to use these coupes in sport car races in 1956, but due to the retirement of
Mercedes-Benz from the motorsports at the end 1955, this never happened. instead, Uhlenhaut drove these cars.
