The Mercedes-Benz 170S was based on the 170V, with a more elegant body,
similar to the pre-war Mercedes-Benz 230. It can be seen as the first Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Since the introduction of the new Mercedes-Benz 180, Mercedes-Benz needed a new entry-level model.
Therefore they took the chassis of the older Mercedes 170V and put the larger Mercedes 170S body on it, and
the Mercedes-Benz 170S-V/170S-D was born.
