Carl Benz was the owner of a company for stationary engines. In 1885 he started to realize his idea for a motorized vehicle.
Instead of using a carriage and installing an engine in it, he constructed his own three-wheeler with a special engine/drivetrain unit.
It drove for the first time october 1885 and 01/29/1886 the patent for this vehicle was granted.
Nearly at the same time Gottlieb Daimler constructed the first four-wheel-automobile. Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler did this without knewing each other.
The car on the pictures is an exact reproduction of the original Benz Patent-Motorwagen, the original
Patent-Motorwagen is exhibited in the "Deutsches Museum" in Munich. (Pictures of it I am not allowed to show.)
Pictures taken at the Frankfurt Auto Show 2003 in Frankfurt, Germany |
