The XJ220 was developed in the late 80s to built a real competitor to the Porsche 959 and the Ferrari F40.
Then, Jaguar was bought by Ford and the budget was cut. Therefore the launch of the XJ220 was delayed.
At first, it was planned to use a 6.2l V12 engine, but then they changed to the V6 Biturbo. The possible
customers weren't happy about the decision, and it was one reasen that the car was no success.
Another reason was the late launch. The supersportcar-hype was already over, and the perfomance was not as good
as the performace of a McLaren F1 for instance.
