The GAZ 13 Chaika was the replacement for the GAZ 12 ZIM. The design of the GAZ 13
was very close to the 1955 Packard Patrician although these cars were not related.
The GAZ 13 in the Soviet Union was only available to top professionals, party officials, scientists, academics, and other VIPs.
No regular person could buy a GAZ 13, even if he or she could afford it.
The car received a major facelift in 1977, when the GAZ 14 was launched. This car was built on the same
base with a more modern look and a updated drivetrain.
