FSO/Polski Fiat
FSO stands for "Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych" which means "factory for passenger automobiles". The company
was founded in 1951, and the first car produced by FSO was a licences version of the Russian GAZ-M20.
From the 1960's FSO started to produce licenced versions of Fiat models, like the Fiat 125,
called Polski Fiat 125p. In 1990 FSO was sold to the Korean Daewoo Motors, and FSO produced
Daewoo models from that moment. But Daewoo went bankrupt in 2000, and the cooperation between Daewoo and FSO
ended short ater, FSO became independent again. A continuation of the production of Daewoo-models until 2007
was achieved by the Polish government, and in the same year GM Daewoo bought 40% of FSO, and the production of
Chevrolet-cars started.
