The Dakar 4x4 was based on the Range Rover first generation or the Land Rover Discovery Series I.
Many engine options were available: Rover V8 3.5, 3.9, 4.2 or 4.6 litre, carburettor or electronic fuel injection,
350 Chevrolet (5.7 ltr), all available turbocharged or supercharged, also available were various diesel options.
