In 1958 Zagato equipped the Guilietta Sprint with a new body and reduced the weight.
These cars were called Giulietta Sprint Veloce Zagato (SVZ) and they were very successful racing cars.
Therefore Alfa Romeo started a cooperation with Zagato to built a official series of cars, the
Giulietta Sprint Speciale Zagato (SZ). After 180 units the "Coda Lunga" (long tail) was replaced by
the "Coda Tronca" (cut-off tail).
